Alstom Grid secures 500kV substation project contract in Tajikistan

Alstom Grid has secured a contract worth more than EUR30m from Tajikistan's national utility Barki Tajik to design and deliver a 500kV switchyard reconstruction project to the Nurek hydropower plant.

Under the turnkey project, the company will replace a 500kV air-insulated substation and install a new 500kV gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) solution.

Alstom Grid's scope of work on this project includes: 500kV GIS bays, 500kV XPLE cables, civil works, protection & control systems, telecom equipment and fire protection system.

Commissioning of the project is scheduled for January 2014.

The Nurek hydropower plant has an installed capacity of 3GW and it produces over 75% of Tajikistan's electricity.
