Complex Flow Design – Leading Consultancy Providers to the Energy Industry

Complex Flow Design is a provider of consultancy services for the energy industry. The company provides contract research and development services within numerical simulations and analysis.

Explore the formation of hydrocarbon reservoirs by fluid dynamics

Complex Flow Design provides state-of-the-art software tools to generate realistic numerical simulations of multi-phase
flow in process, hydraulic and sedimentation engineering. The framework for these numerical simulations is based on the general-purpose Flow-3D computational fluid dynamics software suite, developed by Flow Science.

Sedimentary successions of ancient gravity-flow deposits are important hydrocarbon resources in many parts of the world, and therefore underwater mass-flow processes are of great interest to the petroleum industry. Reliable numerical modelling of sediment gravity flows and their deposits is needed.

MassFLOW-3DTM for modeling of sediment gravity flows

Understanding the petroleum reservoirs created by turbiditic successions requires a solid knowledge of depositional processes and their controlling factors.

The best way to acquire this expertise is through laboratory experiments and numerical simulations of computational fluid dynamics, which can be compared with sedimentological knowledge from well cores, 3D-seismic maps and outcrop sections.

MassFLOW-3D™ is a deterministic process model based on new methods of computational fluid dynamics. It can serve as a robust predictive tool to:

  • Test play-concepts and reduce uncertainty in geological models
  • Improve the understanding of mass-flow processes
  • Simulate the transport and spatial distribution of sediment
  • Visualise an evaluation of the whole depositional system.

The use of such numerical simulations, in combination with the palaeogeomorphic sea- floor maps, may offer important insights into the spatial development of hydrocarbon- hosting turbidite successions.
